Carsoe Delivers Automated Redfish Processing Line for McGraw Seafood
McGraw Seafood has successfully completed the installation of a new automated redfish processing line at its facility in New Brunswick, Canada, in partnership with Carsoe. The project marks a significant step forward in the company’s efforts to diversify production, safeguard product quality, and reduce manual handling—all within the constraints of an existing processing footprint.
The newly installed line spans the full process from raw material receiving through to automatic plate freezing. At its core is Carsoe’s double contact plate freezing technology, supported by a fully integrated downstream automation system. Delivered as a turnkey solution, the project was executed within a tight seasonal timeframe, highlighting the importance of careful planning and close collaboration between the two companies.
A key focus during the early stages of the project was streamlining decision-making and avoiding costly rework. Weekly coordination meetings ensured alignment between teams as the build and installation phases approached, enabling the project to maintain momentum and meet critical deadlines.
“The consultation and initial support for the project were quick and greatly appreciated,” said Nicolas Forget, Project Manager at McGraw Seafood. “The weekly follow-up meetings, especially as the installation approached, allowed for effective monitoring and open, constructive exchanges.”
Despite the accelerated timeline, the final delivery met expectations in full. According to McGraw Seafood, the installed line closely matched the agreed specifications, requiring only minor adjustments during the stabilization phase.
“We are exactly where we wanted to be,” Forget added. “Some adjustments are underway, but the delivered factory matches the specifications. What we expected was precisely what we received.”
Given that installation took place within an operational facility, logistics played a critical role in ensuring minimal disruption. Equipment deliveries, crane operations, and staging were carefully coordinated to optimise workflow and reduce downtime during installation.
Bertin Losier, Construction Supervisor at McGraw Seafood, praised the execution: “All the equipment arrived at the same time. Everything we needed was well anticipated.”
He also noted the immediate impression of quality upon delivery: “From the moment the container was opened, the quality of the equipment was evident.”
The installation process itself was characterised by close cooperation between Carsoe’s engineers and McGraw’s technical team, working together to achieve a smooth and efficient handover. This collaborative approach contributed to a rapid learning curve for operators, supported by on-site guidance and responsive technical support.
Early operational results have been positive. McGraw Seafood reports that production capacity is meeting targets, while system reliability is developing in line with expectations as runtime increases.
“For now, capacity is satisfactory,” said Forget. “Reliability will be confirmed over time, but everything seems to be in line.”
He concluded by highlighting the strength of the partnership: “Carsoe equipment appears solid and durable. The consistent support throughout the entire process was a major strength, and it allows us to confidently recommend working with Carsoe in Canada.”
With the successful commissioning of the automated line, McGraw Seafood is well positioned to enhance efficiency, maintain product integrity, and support future growth in redfish processing.
