DENIS PETROPOULOS NAMED AS LISW21 BOARD OF ADVISORS VICE CHAIR

Denis Petropoulos named as LISW21 board of advisors vice chair and eventual successor to chair LISW23 BOA. Denis Petropoulos, Chairman of the Baltic Exchange, has been appointed Vice Chair of the LISW21 Board of Advisors and will succeed Lord Mountevans as BOA Chair for LISW 2023.
His appointment brings valuable continuity and succession to this important position. Lord Mountevans will step down as BOA Chair after LISW21 in September, and the LISW21 BOA and Steering Group are indebted to the valuable contribution he has made to this important role.
Thanking the Board of Advisors for its support, Mr Petropoulos said:
“I am delighted to have been asked to succeed Lord Mountevans as BOA Chair. LISW has proved itself to be a key international industry event and its contribution to blue sky thinking in the global shipping industry, post-COVID, will be brought into even sharper focus this September when we all meet.”
He added:
“I will strive hard to continue the excellent work carried out by Lord Mountevans and I look forward to working with my colleagues on the BOA as we bring LISW21 to fruition and start work on LISW23.”
Lord Mountevans, Chair of the LISW21 BOA, welcomed Denis’s appointment saying he would bring the right level of leadership and high-level industry knowhow to the role:
“Denis is very well respected in global shipping and with his contacts and industry knowledge, he will inject the right level of guidance and direction as LISW builds on its position as a truly global maritime event.”
Following the announcement in February of the UK Prime Minister’s roadmap out of the COVID-19 restrictions, Shipping Innovation, organisers of London International Shipping Week 2021, confirmed that LISW21 will go ahead this year as a mixture of in-person and virtual events.
LISW21, the week-long maritime showcase supported by the domestic and international shipping, ports and maritime industries as well as the UK Government, will take place from 13-17 September this year, giving certainty to delegates aiming to attend, as well as to sponsors and supporting organisations who are now scheduling their own events.
The week-long event will be agile, seamlessly blending in-person events with a range of online activities via a dedicated portal. This gives it the flexibility to take account of any remaining COVID-19 restrictions which may affect the way we gather in September. Anyone running an official event during LISW21 is being urged to plan for all contingencies, with support from the LISW21 team.
LISW21’s Board of Advisors and Steering Group, made up of leading figures from throughout the international shipping community, are working closely with Shipping Innovation to ensure that LISW21 runs smoothly. Based upon current reported COVID developments and the Prime Minister’s roadmap, it is hoped that as many events as possible will be held in-person during LISW21, but for those delegates who are unable to be in London, for whatever reason, LISW21 will also contain a high-quality virtual element.
LISW21 is on track to host some 200 events and activities as well as holding its influential Headline Conference which this year will take place on Wednesday September 15 at the London headquarters of the International Maritime Organisation on the banks of the River Thames.
