GIANT AQUAFARM VESSEL BEING BUILT IN CHINA
The creation of a 249-meter floating aquafarm is handled by the China State Shipbuilding Corporation. The ship will be 45 meters wide, 100,000 tons displacement, and a fully electric propulsion system will reach speeds of up to 10 knots.
The vessel will be equipped with tanks with a total volume of 80,000 cubic metres and a temperature maintenance system. Expensive and high quality fish such as large yellow croakers, sea bass and Atlantic salmon, are planned to be raised at the floating aquafarm. It is expected to complete construction by March 2022..
The main advantage of an aquafarm vessel is its ability to move independently. In this way, exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as typhoons or algal blooms can be avoided.
China annually accounts for about two-thirds of world production and consumption of fish and seafood.
