GROUND BREAKING BREEDING PROGRAMME RECIEVES SCDI AWARD
A ground breaking breeding programme by Scottish Sea Farms, alongside Marine Harvest Scotland, has received a Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) award.
In collaboration with the University of Stirling, and supported by Innovate UK, feed specialist, Biomar and the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC), the leading fish farming companies have been working to produce cleaner fish, in this case, Ballan wrasse, which eat parasites such as sea lice residing on salmon. These fish have been taken from the wild until now, which has implications for the natural stock and this breeding programme can provide a more secure and sustainable future.
SAIC would like to congratulate all the parties involved in this innovative project and we were delighted to be involved in such a significant and important industry scheme.
