GUAYAQUIL HOSTS THE MOST IMPORTANT SHRIMP EVENT

Guayaquil hosts the most important shrimp event in the continent: AQUAEXPO 2024In the Baquerizo Moreno hall of the Guayaquil Convention Centre, the official start of this aquaculture event of worldwide relevance took place. The board of directors was composed of prominent representatives from the government and diplomatic spheres, such as Luis Alberto Jaramillo, Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries; Jekaterina Dorodnova, Ambassador of the European Union in Ecuador; Mary Fisk-Ridder, Consul of the United States; Fang Hao, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy of China; Marcelo Vélez, President of the Board of Directors of the National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA), and José Antonio Camposano, Executive President of the CNA. This event marks a milestone in the aquaculture industry, standing out as a platform for dialogue on sustainability and innovation in the sector.

During the inauguration, José Antonio Camposano highlighted the importance of sustainability as a collective responsibility. In his words:

“AQUAEXPO is not only a space to talk about challenges; it is a platform to build solutions”. He also announced the introduction of the ‘Race to the Top’ forum, in collaboration with the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership, a space focused on raising the standards of sustainability and innovation in the shrimp industry. Camposano emphasised that Ecuador’s goal is not only to meet international expectations, but also to “lead global change in the sector, with sustainability as a fundamental pillar”.

For his part, Minister Luis Alberto Jaramillo confirmed the government’s support to the aquaculture industry and other export sectors of the country:

“I want to reaffirm my strong and reliable commitment to contribute to this sector and all the export and production sectors of the country, so they can be better day by day,” he said.

This year, AQUAEXPO has the participation of nearly 400 stands exhibiting the latest trends and innovations in aquaculture, and the attendance of more than 10,000 visitors is estimated. In addition, the event will be attended by more than 30 international delegations, and for the first time, the “Race to the Top” forum will be held, which will address issues of governance, environment, social and economic aspects to enhance the sustainability of the industry.
