ICELANDIC BOAT BACK FISHING
Icelandic boat back fishing after winch motor incident – HB Grandi’s fresher trawler Engey managed a quick fishing trip before landing into Reykjavík following a winch motor fire that had altered its schedule
Skipper Friðleifur Einarsson said: “This was a very quick trip. Just forty-eight hours fishing, as we were adjusting to the landing schedule again after the incident a few days ago. But the fishing was good, around 60 tonnes, and practically clean cod.”
The incident he referred to was when one of the winch motors caught fire while Engey was fishing in the Víkuráll Gully ten days ago. The fire was quickly extinguished and last week the winch motor was repaired.
‘As we didn’t have much time this trip, we went straight north to the Víkuráll Gully with the intention of picking up some redfish. But there was only cod to be had there. There had previously been some haddock and saithe on the outer edge of the Hali grounds, but that was all over by the time we got there,’ Friðleifur Einarsson said, adding that the trip was ten hauls for around 60 tonnes of fish.
