IMPORTS OF CHILLED SALMON SHOW CLEAR DOWNWARD TREND

Imports of Chilled Salmon Show Clear Downward Trend — Down 16% Year-on-Year

In March 2025, Korea’s imports of chilled salmon totalled 1,137 tons, representing a 16% decrease compared to the same period in 2024 (1,357 tons).

According to the data, cumulative imports of chilled salmon from January to March 2025 amounted to 3,217 tons a 22.5% decline from the 4,154 tons recorded in the same period of 2024.

This accounts for approximately 1.4% of the total seafood import volume of 234,669 tons.

By country, Norwegian chilled salmon dominated the market, accounting for 99% of the total volume (3,207 tons) by the end of March. Australia followed with 6 tons, and Chile with 4 tons.

There were notable differences in import unit prices by country.

Norwegian salmon had an average import price of USD 14.41/kg, followed by Australian salmon at USD 15.17/kg, and Chilean salmon at USD 12.25/kg.

The import value of chilled salmon in March 2025 was USD 11.71 million, a 40% decrease from USD 19.42 million in March 2024.
The cumulative import value from January to March was USD 46.35 million down 26% compared to USD 62.74 million in the same period last year.

The overall average import price was USD 14.41/kg, marking a 5% decrease from the previous year’s average of USD 15.10/kg.

As both the import volume and value of chilled salmon continue to decline, a slight drop in domestic distribution prices is expected in the near future.
