NEW QUALITY MANAGER FOR SAMHERJI
New quality manager for Samherji. Sunneva Ósk Gudmundsdóttir has been appointed quality manager for land-based fish processing at Samherji. She replaces Elvar Thorarensen, who is retiring for health reasons.
Ms. Gudmundsdóttir has a degree in fisheries science from the University of Akureyri and has worked on quality control at Samherji for the past three years. She lives in Akureyri with Omar Thorri Gunnlaugsson, and they have two children.
Elvar Thorarensen has worked at Samherji throughout his career. He began in human resources but was then appointed quality manager and held that position for 25 years.
A company statement said: “Elvar Thorarensen has always performed with integrity and has been an international leader in the field of quality control for fish processing. He has worked on quality issues and audits with the world’s largest retailers. In recent years he has worked diligently to develop a new working environment for fish processing, where safety, environmental protection, and sustainability are key factors. Samherji’s fish processing is recognized by the most demanding buyers in the Western world for quality products, and Mr. Thorarensen has played a significant part in that success with other employees of Samherji.
Thorarensen will work with Samherji’s staff for the next few months and assist in projects that arise.
