RUSSIAN FISH PRODUCTION INCREASES IN FIRST TWO MONTHS OF THE YEAR

Russian fish production increases in first two months of the year. The production of fish and processed fish products in Russia in January-February this year increased by 12.6 thousand tons and reached 627.6 thousand tons. The growth was 2.1% compared to the same period in 2021.

However, it is uncertain what the impact of the international outrage at the Russian invasion of Ukraine and ongoing war will mean for fish production for the rest of the year.

The production of fish meat increased by almost 9 thousand tons to 15.6 thousand tons. The growth was almost 130%. Fish fillet production – by 21.2 thousand tons to 65 thousand tons. Growth – 48.5%.

Increased production of fish liver and milk; fish meal and granules suitable for human consumption by 72.5% or by 13.2 thousand tons to 18.2 thousand tons.

The production of frozen, dried, salted or in brine, smoked molluscs increased by 63.3% or by 2.5 thousand tons to 4 thousand tons.

Saturation of store shelves with high-quality products becomes possible due to the modernisation of the industry.

The growth in production, and in particular, deep processing, is also due to the renewal of production facilities. As part of the investment quota programme, 21 high-tech fish processing plants were put into operation; in total, enterprises can process about 3.3 million tons of aquatic biological resources.
