£100M SALMON FARMING FACILITY PLANS LODGED

£100m salmon farming facility plans lodged. Plans have been lodged for a large salmon farming facility which would represent a £100m investment and support the creation of about 80 jobs.

ASL New Clee Ltd has submitted a full planning application to North East Lincolnshire Council for a 29-acre site at the Port of Grimsby.

Planning permission is sought for the construction of a 440,000 sq ft (gross internal area) aquaculture facility.

This would feature both freshwater and saltwater tanks for raising salmon, as well as a water treatment plant, a fish processing line and a feed storage unit.

The plans also include an on-site energy centre, dedicated area for bio-security and disinfection, and landscaping.

New access will be created, along with 95 car parking spaces, seven van parking spaces, 40 cycle parking spaces and three loading bays

The facility could produce about 5,000 tonnes of fish per year when fully operational.

The proposed development represents a circa £100m investment. It has been estimated that 80 full time equivalent (FTE) jobs would be created, as well as roles during construction.

A planning statement submitted as part of the application said: “The sustainable and environmentally safe proposal from ASL New Clee Ltd for a state-of-the-art onshore aquaculture farm would support Grimsby in processing its own, local fish, establishing Grimsby as the UK’s pioneer of aquaculture and reinforcing the Town’s reputation as Europe’s seafood capital.”

The site, which is owned by Associated British Ports (ABP), was previously used as rail sidings and most recently, between 2014 and 2016, as a storage area for the flood defence works undertaken by the Environment Agency.

The project team includes Montagu Evans, UMC Architects, S&D Garritt Ltd, Alan Wood & Partners, E2 Consultants, Tree First Ltd, 2B Landscape Consultancy Ltd, Local Transport Projects, e3p, AECOM, Michael Bull & Associates, Lumineux, RBP Agency and Envireau Water.
