CEPESCA SIGNS COLLABORATION

CEPESCA signs collaboration agreement on fishing gear. The Spanish Fisheries Confederation ( CEPESCA ) and the company Gravity Wave have signed a collaboration agreement to advance in the treatment and subsequent revaluation of fishing nets and gear at the end of their useful life.

The agreement has been signed within the framework of Cepesca’s REDUSE-II project , which aims to contribute to the future implementation of a responsible management model for fishing nets and gear that incorporates the criterion of extended producer responsibility for the treatment and sustainable processing of materials, thus complying with the European Green Pact and the European regulations on plastics, transposed into the new Waste Law.

According to the agreement, Gravity Wave will act as one of the collaborating companies in the pilots that are being developed in several ports of our country within REDUSE-II to generate the necessary knowledge to guarantee that the new form of management can be scaled with an operational risk. minimum and in an economically sustainable way.

Once the ports in which the pilots will be carried out have been defined , Gravity Wave’s action will consist of the management and transformation of this waste into urban furniture , such as tables, benches, flower pots or litter bins, in line with the principles of the circular economy.

For years, the fishing sector has been working in different ways to manage fishing nets and gear so that they have a second life.

The REDUSE-II project is a continuation of the one carried out in 2021 (REDUSE) and is developed in collaboration with the Biodiversity Foundation and the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, through the Pleamar Programme, co-financed by the FEMP (European Maritime and Fishing Fund).
