O’TOOLE TRANSPORT: DRIVING IRELAND’S FOOD LOGISTICS FORWARD

O’Toole Transport Ltd, a proudly family-owned business, was established in 1996 in Moycullen, County Galway.

Over nearly three decades, the company has grown from a modest local operation into one of Ireland’s leading names in food logistics and transport.

With a clear focus on innovation, customer service, and efficiency, O’Toole Transport now plays a critical role in the distribution of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) across Ireland, the UK and continental Europe.

A Legacy Built on Vision and Determination

Though O’Toole Transport Ltd was officially founded in 1996, its roots stretch back to the 1940s when John Patrick O’Toole, known locally as John Pake, purchased a Commer lorry to set up a small agricultural delivery service in rural Connemara.

Based in Moycullen, his venture proved successful, serving local farmers and businesses with integrity and reliability. Unfortunately, his passing in 1963 brought a pause to operations — but not to the family’s passion for transport.

In 1996, the O’Toole family revived the business spirit, forming O’Toole Transport Ltd as a dedicated family-run enterprise.

With little more than a single Scania 93M230 truck, a handful of loyal customers, and a shared commitment to hard work, the company began its second chapter.

Today, more than 25 years later, O’Toole Transport employs over 220 full-time staff and operates one of the country’s most sophisticated temperature-controlled fleets.

Modern Fleet and Facilities

O’Toole Transport is a dynamic, forward-thinking company with a fleet that reflects its standards of excellence. The fleet includes:

  • 190+ trucks and 250+ trailers with an average vehicle age of just 4 years
  • Refrigerated, ambient, and multi-temperature trailers, enabling transport of a wide variety of food products
  • GPS and GPRS-enabled tracking, giving customers full 24/7 visibility into their deliveries

The company’s depots are strategically located in Galway, Dublin and Glasgow, ensuring seamless national and international distribution capabilities. The Dublin depot includes a 60,000 sq. ft. warehouse with advanced loading facilities, including 12 dock levellers and a full-service vehicle maintenance hub.

Expertise in Food and FMCG Logistics

O’Toole Transport specialises in temperature-controlled logistics and distribution for the FMCG sector. Their services include:

  • Scheduled daily collections from across Ireland and the UK
  • National and international transport solutions tailored to food and retail brands
  • Customs clearance support, especially vital post-Brexit
  • Seafood logistics and supermarket RDC distribution across Ireland and the UK

Their portfolio features long-standing partnerships with some of the world’s largest food companies, a testament to their reliability, performance, and customer service.

Setting the Industry Standard

In 2012, O’Toole Transport became the first logistics company in Ireland to achieve BRC Accreditation for cross-docking and the distribution of chilled, frozen and ambient foodstuffs.

This certification affirmed their commitment to food safety, operational excellence and continuous improvement.

The company’s reputation is built not only on its impressive infrastructure but also on the values passed down from its founder: reliability, trust, and community. Their motto — “Equipment you can rely on, people you can trust” — perfectly captures the company’s ethos.

A Company Driven by Innovation and Family Values

From a single truck in Moycullen to a fleet serving the entire European food supply chain,

O’Toole Transport stands as a model of vision, resilience, and progress. Guided by a pioneering spirit and a deep connection to its roots, the company continues to transform Ireland’s transport industry, all while remaining true to its identity as a proudly family-owned business.
