National Federation of Fishmongers celebrates excellence across the UK’s independent seafood sector

The National Federation of Fishmongers (NFF) has announced Rockpool Fishmongers, based in Blackheath, London, as the overall winner of the 2025 Fishmonger of the Year Awards.

Founded in 2023 by a team with deep roots in both fishmongery and hospitality, Rockpool has quickly built a reputation for excellence combining exceptional quality, creativity, and community spirit.

The judges praised Rockpool for ‘their outstanding focus on quality, innovation, teamwork and customer care. A dynamic new business that captures everything modern fishmongery should be.’

The awards celebrate excellence across the UK’s independent seafood retail sector, recognising the craft, knowledge, and integrity behind the counter.

This year’s finalists showcased an outstanding range of skills and business styles, from coastal fishmongers and smokehouses to urban seafood specialists and mobile traders, each one representing the very best of modern fishmongery.

This year’s judging panel reflected the very best of British fishmongery expertise, bringing together some of the UK’s most respected independent fishmongers with almost 200 years of combined experience in the trade:

  • Sue MacKenzie, President of the National Federation of Fishmongers and owner of The Fish Shop, Camberley
  • Andrew Kenny, Vice President of the NFF and owner of Cross of York
  • Giles Shaw, Honorary Treasurer & Company Secretary of the NFF, and owner of Wellgate Fisheries, Clitheroe
  • Rex Goldsmith, Immediate Past President of the NFF and owner of The Chelsea Fishmongers
  • Hayden Cutting, Bells Fishmongers, Carlisle NFF Council Member and winner of Fishmonger of the Year 2024
