Tuna Conference is one of the lead international conference of INFOFISH. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s Tuna conference is happening virtually in between 19-21 May 2021.
The theme of this year’s conference is The Global Tuna Industry: Trailblazing through Tough Times. The 3 day event will cover main themes viz Industry updates, Sustainability and Social Accountability, Retail Marketing, Technological Innovations, Sustainable Tuna Stocks and Resource Management etc.
“Our tuna world continues to evolve and challenge us. Social accountability, particularly the working conditions of employees at sea and ashore has become a critical focus for us. Resource sustainability continues to be a concern in some Oceans. We have much work to do.” said Mr Phil Roberts (Tri Marine International Pte Ltd, Singapore), Chairman of INFOFISH Tuna 2021 in his keyline message.
The keynote speakers of the event include Ms Maria Helena Somedo (FAO Deputy Director General, Italy), H E Ab. Bernardo Hidalgo Baquerizo (Vice Minister of Aquaculture & Fisheries, Ecuador), Hon. Semi Koroilavesau (Minister for Fisheries, Fiji), HE Ambassador Peter Thomson (UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Ocean).
INFOFISH was originally launched in 1981 as a project of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Since 1987, it is an Intergovernmental Organization providing marketing information and technical advisory services to the fishery industry of the Asia-Pacific region and beyond from its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
INFOFISH is the leading source of marketing support for fish producers and exporters in the Asia-Pacific – a region which includes some of the largest fishing nations in the world. Its activities include bringing buyers and sellers together, the publication of current and long-term marketing information and operation of technical advisory and specialized services. In addition to organizing exhibitions, conferences, workshops, seminars and training programs, INFOFISH undertakes consultancies on all aspects of fisheries – pre-harvest, harvest, and post-harvest.
