NEW BOARD MEMBERS APPOINTED AT LERWICK HARBOUR

New board members appointed at Lerwick Harbour. John Henderson has been returned as Chair of Lerwick Port Authority for another twelve-month period at the Authority’s Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 18 July 2023.

Colin Nicholson has also been returned as Deputy Chair for the same term, following reappointment to the Board.

Two new Board Members have been appointed to the Board of Lerwick Port Authority following the annual appointments process, namely Chris Bain and Daniel Gear. All of the appointees bring valuable experience across the ports and energy industries and will serve a three-year term to July 2026.

Members stepping down from the Board following long periods of service are Gary Robinson and Peter Campbell, both having served 10 years respectively.

Lerwick Harbour is the principal commercial port for Shetland and a key component in the islands’ economy.At the crossroads of the North Sea and North-east Atlantic, Lerwick Harbour is Britain’s ‘Top’ Port – the most northerly commercial harbour in the country. With two entrances, the sheltered, deep-water port is open to shipping in all weathers and operates around the clock, handling over 5,000 vessels.

The Port Authority is entrusted to manage, maintain and regulate the port and harbour of Lerwick, in an efficient and safe way for the benefit of all stakeholders.

To satisfy customers’ needs in the delivery of competitive port services and be proactive in identifying new opportunities which will sustain and grow the Shetland community.

With 140 years of experience, to ensure the port and its infrastructure remains relevant to future shipping generations and plays a key role in the economic life of the islands.
