NEW CHAIR FOR SCOTTISH SEAFOOD ASSOCIATION

NEW CHAIR FOR SCOTTISH SEAFOOD ASSOCIATION

New Chair for Scottish Seafood Association. At the recent AGM of the Scottish Seafood Association (SSA), after three years in the key role of Chair, Amber Knight of MacNeil Shellfish decided not to stand for re-election due to work commitments within her own business.

Following her decision, the SSA Executive Committee elected Andrew Brown to serve as Chair with Peter Overton taking over as Vice Chair.

Both will bring considerable expertise and knowledge to the executive with Andrew having excellent knowledge and insight of the Scottish Government as a former civil servant, as well as his current role with Macduff Shellfish, with Peter adding extensive knowledge in the food sector from his previous career paths at Donald Russell and now with Laeso Fish.

Additionally, the Executive Committee recognised the need for whitefish processing to be well-represented, resulting in Graeme Sutherland of Whitelink Seafoods and David Leiper of Seafood Ecosse being appointed as advisors to the office bearers. All are experts are in their fields and their extensive knowledge will ensure the SSA is well-equipped to meet future challenges.

Jimmy Buchan Chief Executive of SSA said:

“I would like to pay tribute to Amber Knight for her excellent work over the last few years as Chair, which helped us negotiate some challenging times for the seafood sector, including Brexit and the cost-of-living crisis.

“Moving forward, the importance of having wide and extensive representation in the coming years was never more important as the Sottish seafood sector transitions in the food supply chain to work towards NetZero targets and remain as important domestic and global suppliers of sustainable seafood to consumers.

“Overall, the Executive Committee encompasses a wide range of skills and knowledge that greatly benefits the association and wider seafood sector. This puts the SSA in a very strong position to represent the sector effectively.”
