OCEAN CONSERVATION TRUST PARTNERS WITH HYDROSPHERE

Ocean Conservation Trust partners with Hydrosphere. The Ocean Conservation Trust has partnered with Hydrosphere to help protect sensitive seagrass meadows as part of their Blue Meadows project.

A statement said: “A vital first step in the Blue Meadows approach is our protection and regeneration programme. We need to protect the seagrass meadows we already have, before we restore the ones we have lost.

“By identifying and marking sensitive areas of seagrass beds, providing boats with an alternative to seabed anchoring and measuring the impact of these changes on seagrass meadow health, we can help seagrass to recover and regenerate.

“We need both reliable mooring solutions that do not damage the seabed, as well as appropriate navigational aids to keep sea traffic at a safe distance. That is where Hydrosphere come in.

Hydrosphere are a leading supplier of marine aids to navigation (AtoN), and part of their portfolio includes Mobilis buoys. These happen to be ideal for marking areas of seagrass meadows. They are highly visible, ensuring boats are aware when they are entering areas with sensitive seabeds. They are also constructed with durable materials, reducing the need for disruptive maintenance when we are trying to minimise the effects of disturbance on seagrass meadows.

“Not stopping there, they have also supplied Mobilis mooring buoys to facilitate anchor-free mooring around sensitive areas where there is lots of boating activity, preventing damage to the seabed.

“The best thing? Both types of buoys are fully recyclable, providing an effective and sustainable solution for the protection element of our Blue Meadows Project.”
