OCEANPICK PREMIUM BARRAMUNDI ENTERS THE EUROPEAN MARKET

OCEANPICK PREMIUM BARRAMUNDI

Oceanpick premium barramundi enters the European market. Oceanpick, South Asia’s largest oceanic fin-fish farm, has reached another momentous milestone for its ocean-grown Barramundi, with entry into the European market through its strategic partnership with Kangamiut Seafood.  Founded in Denmark in 1975 by Niels Vinther Rasmussen, Kangamiut Seafood has a long and successful track record in the seafood business spanning over half a century, providing the world with quality frozen seafood. Kangamiut Seafood is the original cornerstone of the Kangamiut Group which comprises several significant subsidiaries and associated companies and is firmly positioned as a market leader in seafood export and distribution, supplying more than 100,000 tons of quality seafood every year to customers worldwide.

Kangamiut Seafood has a long established and extensive European customer base and distribution network. Via Kangamiut Seafoods’ strong market penetration and supported by their experience in global partnerships, customer focus, reliable delivery and swift response, Oceanpick will introduce its world-class barramundi products to European consumers for the first time.

This strategic partnership between Oceanpick and Kangamiut Seafood strengthens Oceanpick’s global brand extension and positions itself as a significant aquaculture producer. Despite current global challenges impacting all businesses across the globe, Oceanpick has demonstrated resilience during adverse times, taking up new challenges and braving new markets.

Entry into the European market is a significant achievement for Oceanpick which is already supplying its iconic barramundi to markets in Australia, the USA, Maldives and the Middle East.  Sri Lanka is now firmly positioned on the world aquaculture map which is a boost to the island nation’s economy which took a downturn last year and is now on a steady path to recovery.

Barramundi has been coined as the ‘salmon of the tropics’ with its mellow flavours, smooth buttery taste and dining versatility. It compares very well against species such as the European seabass.

The pristine waters of Trincomalee located off the northeastern seaboard of Sri Lanka are the home to Oceanpick barramundi. Trincomalee is also the world’s second-largest natural harbour and has remained free of industrial-scale activities that are typical in some farming locations in Asia. These salient features made it an ideal choice for Oceanpick farm sites and are reflected in the quality of the fish.

Recognising sustainability as a core requirement, Oceanpick farm and hatchery are fully integrated BAP-certified. Oceanpick land-based hatchery was recently renamed Alain Michel Hatchery after the French aquaculture veteran who was instrumental in setting up Oceanpick hatchery.

The coming years are shaping to be exciting times for Oceanpick as it continues its journey with its world-class barramundi and strong international partnerships making great strides across continents.
