OCTAFORM DELIVERS INNOVATIVE AND SUSTAINABLE TANK SOLUTIONS FOR AQUACULTURE

Octaform delivers innovative and sustainable tank solutions for aquaculture

Canadian company Octaform, globally recognised as a leader in stay-in-place formwork and liner solutions, is helping drive innovation in the aquaculture sector with tank systems designed to create optimal conditions for fish growth while supporting sustainable production.

The company has been involved in several high-profile aquaculture developments in Iceland, including projects with Arnalax and First Water, where its patented construction system has been used to deliver durable, efficient and low-maintenance fish-rearing infrastructure.

For Arnalax, Octaform supplied and installed four octagonal smolt tanks, each measuring 12 metres in diameter and four metres in height. The tanks were engineered with rounded corners featuring a 600mm radius, a design element that improves water flow dynamics, enhances fish welfare and reduces the formation of dead zones where waste can accumulate.

At First Water’s Phase 1 development, Octaform provided multiple tanks built in parallel, allowing for the efficient integration of key system components, including pipe penetrations and access points. The company’s smooth PVC liner technology also helped improve tank durability while simplifying cleaning and maintenance requirements.

Commenting on the project, Octaform said: “Our adaptable system proved essential in supporting First Water’s innovative approach, ensuring both operational efficiency and environmental responsibility in one of Iceland’s most ambitious aquaculture projects to date.”

Octaform’s versatile construction system can be incorporated into everything from simple grow-out tanks to highly complex recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). The patented solution is designed for rapid assembly without the need for specialised labour or heavy equipment and is the only system that simultaneously forms and protects tank walls in a single step.

By integrating the finished surface directly into the structure, Octaform eliminates the need for additional liners, cladding or sealants, reducing construction time while delivering a long-lasting, easy-to-maintain solution for modern aquaculture facilities.
