RUSSIAN FISH CATCH RISES

Russian fish catch rises. According to the Russian industry monitoring system, by June 3, 2020, the total fish catch, amounted to more than 2.16 million tons, which is almost 113.5 thousand tons, or 5.5% more than last year.

In the Far Eastern fisheries basin, production increased by 8.2% and amounted to about 1.56 million tons. About 1.13 million tons were caught in the pollock fishery, which is 49.14 thousand tons higher than last year. 9.33 thousand tons more cod was caught – about 85.7 thousand tons, and for herring – 11.83 thousand tons more, amounting to around 118 thousand tons.

In the Northern Basin, fishery managers increased their catch by more than 2.4% compared to last year – to almost 222 thousand tons. 154.4 thousand tons were caught in the cod fishery – 9 thousand tons less, while the haddock catch increased by 11.71 thousand tons – up to 34.81 thousand tons.

In the Western Basin, the catch volume amounted to about 54.1 thousand tons, which is 0.1% more than last year. About 35.72 thousand tons came from the sprat fishery, which is 1.2 thousand tons more than last year. The catch of Baltic herring amounted to about 14.5 thousand tons – 1 thousand tons less.

In the Azov-Black Sea fisheries basin 32.22 thousand tons were caught, which is 5% less than last year.

31.72 thousand tons were caught in the Volga-Caspian fisheries basin, which is 1.5% more than last year. Sprat catch amounted to 4.64 thousand tons, which is 4.4 thousand tons more than last year.
