EUROPÊCHE STRENGTHENS ITS TEAM

Europêche strengthens its team to enhance communication and project activities across EU fisheries policies. Europêche, the leading representative body of the EU’s fishing sector, is reinforcing its team to elevate its communication and project work in support of sustainable fisheries, thriving fishing communities and effective ocean governance.

As part of this effort, Europêche has appointed Ms Mathilde Nouvel as Project and Communication Officer. In her project management role, she actively supports initiatives that are shaping the future of sustainable fisheries, driving innovation, enhancing science and safety on board, promoting equity and advancing progress across the industry. In her communication role, she contributes to the implementation of the organisation’s communication strategy, helping to raise the visibility, realities and understanding of the sector.

Her work spans a broad range of fisheries-related issues, with a particular focus on promoting a balanced and pragmatic approach to sustainability, one that fully integrates environmental, social and economic dimensions, all of which are essential to the long-term viability of the sector.

With over three years of professional experience in project management and communication, Ms Nouvel brings valuable expertise in ocean governance, the sustainable blue economy and climate mitigation. She has previously supported a range of initiatives at both UN and EU level, combining policy insight with practical implementation experience.

Ms Nouvel is already actively involved in several EU-funded projects that support skills development, safety, innovation, sustainability and cooperation across the fisheries and blue economy sectors. These include BOUTCAR, which helps workers develop transferable skills and access new opportunities; Pillars of the Sea, which promotes safer and more attractive working conditions; as well as STARFISH and WaveForward, which are advancing modern training methods and harmonised standards for fishers across Europe. She will also contribute to the ITUNNES project, which strengthens collaboration between scientists and the fishing industry to improve knowledge of tropical tuna stocks and support sustainable fisheries management. Together, these initiatives reflect the sector’s commitment to investing in people, knowledge and innovation, while preparing the workforce of the future.
