ACME SMOKED FISH ACQUIRES STAKE IN NORLAX A/S
Acme Smoked Fish is the U.S. smoked fish market leader, with generations of the family running the business since 1906 and an extensive product line of high-quality hot and cold smoked fish available nationwide. By partnering with Norlax, Acme will be able to strengthen its high-quality supply chain and provide even more options to their growing roster of customers. The partnership will also allow Acme to operate closer to European sources of raw material, similar to its operation in Puerto Montt, Chile.
Norlax A/S, located in Outrup, Denmark is one of Europe’s most prestigious smokehouses for over 100 years. With a focus on quality and food safety, they produce and export smoked salmon, trout, and mackerel to markets around the world. Through this partnership, Norlax will access additional resources from Acme as well as complementary products to offer its customers a full suite of value-add seafood products.
Acme and Norlax first began working together in 2008 and share core values across their long-standing partnership. Their shared commitment to the highest-quality products starts with fresh whole fish, time-honoured smoking techniques, and a fastidious commitment to food safety at every step of production. Both companies are GFSI Certified and each devote significant resources to research, development and technology.

Acme has expanded their business beyond Brooklyn over the past several years. In 2007, Acme acquired Great American Smoked Fish Company, a Florida-based smoked fish producer and distributor. In 2015, Acme expanded to Chile, where they process fresh whole fish right at the source. In that year, they also opened a 100,000-square foot cold-smoked salmon facility in Wilmington, NC. Last year, Acme announced that Spence & Co., the Massachusetts-based smoker, was joining the Acme family. Next, Acme is working to expand its Brooklyn operations with a new state-of-the-art smokehouse and production facility in the Greenpoint neighbourhood of Brooklyn. This move will allow Acme to stay close to its roots, where four generations of the family have grown the business to be a worldwide market leader.
