AQUACULTURE INNOVATION AWARD DEADLINE EXTENDED
Aquaculture Innovation Award deadline extended. The Global Aquaculture Alliance has extended the application deadline for the eighth annual Global Aquaculture Innovation Award from June 15 to June 30.
In 2012, GAA established the competition to recognize individuals and companies finding new solutions to the key challenges facing aquaculture.
What is an aquaculture innovation? Examples include technologies that mitigate the occurrence of animal diseases or parasites, or that reduce or eliminate the use of antibiotics to treat animals; technologies that improve production efficiencies at the hatchery or farm levels while mitigating environmental impact; advances in offshore or land-based recirculation technologies; novel feed ingredients; reductions in carbon footprint through improved energy efficiency or regeneration; and social programs designed to improve living and working conditions at the farm or processing levels.
Both individuals and companies performing activities related to aquaculture may submit applications. Third parties may also submit an application on behalf of an individual or company.
Three finalists will be selected by five judges among the pool of applicants. The three finalists will be invited to present during GAA’s GOAL 2020 conference from Oct. 6 to 8. For the third consecutive year, the winner will be selected by an audience vote. This year’s event is virtual. The three finalists will also be eligible to use the new Global Aquaculture Innovation Award logo in their communications and marketing efforts.
In 2019, a record 43 applications from 20 countries were submitted. Last year, the three finalists were Mike Forbes of Ace Aquatec, Emily Glenn of Arbiom and Adriano Mallmann of Pegasus Science, who all presented at GOAL 2019 in Chennai, India. With just over half of the audience vote, Forbes was chosen as the winner for his Scottish company’s in-water electric stunning device designed to slaughter fish more humanely.
The 2019 competition was sponsored by Preferred Freezer Services.
To apply, fill out the application form in its entirety and email it to Dan Lee at email@example.com and Steven Hedlund at firstname.lastname@example.org. Visuals of the innovation, including photographs and illustrations, are strongly encouraged to be included with the application.
