ARGENTINA AND RUSSIA SIGN

Argentina and Russia sign fisheries agreement. In Buenos Aires, the first session of the Russian-Argentine Fisheries Commission was recently held. The Commission was created to implement the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Argentine Republic on cooperation in the field of fisheries and aquaculture.

The delegations included representatives of the authorities of the Argentine Republic, specialists of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of Argentina, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina, the National Institute for Research and Development of Fisheries of Argentina (INIDEP), the Federal Agency for Fisheries, the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO), as well as fishing organizations of both countries.

The parties made a presentation of the current status and development prospects of the fishing industry of each state. Specialists of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) and the National Institute for Research and Development of Fisheries of Argentina (INIDEP) exchanged information on the main areas of scientific research to determine the vectors of joint work.

To establish partnerships, a meeting was organized between Russian and Argentinean industry associations and fisheries companies.

During the session, Russia and Argentina analysed the mutual trade in fish products and the possibility of expanding imports and exports in the future.

The Argentine side noted the importance of the experience of cooperation with Russia in training personnel for the fishing industry and expressed its readiness to continue work in this direction. The final document was signed on March 2, 2020 aboard the Kruzenshtern training sailing vessel.

The signing of the protocol was attended by Ilya Shestakov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia – Head of the Russian Fisheries and Julian Echazareta, Vice-Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Argentine Republic.

Ilya Shestakov and Julian Echazareta noted the successful start of joint work. “The first session is an important step in the implementation of the Agreement for the development of mutually beneficial and equal cooperation in the field of fisheries and aquaculture,” Ilya Shestakov noted.

The Vice Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Argentine Republic emphasized the importance of the event. “We are pleased to receive the delegation of Russia, a friend country, a brother country, and hold the first session on Argentinean soil. We greatly value our cooperation and are committed to fruitful joint work, ”said Julian Echazareta.
