CUSTOMERS TO GET HANDS ON WITH FISHMONGERS

CUSTOMERS TO GET HANDS ON

Customers to get hands on with fishmongers. Seafood lovers across the country will have the opportunity to get behind the fish counter and practice their filleting skills with a certified Master Fishmonger during this year’s Seafood Week (4th – 11th October). The open day sessions will be held at various, independent fishmonger shops across the UK. The initiative is part of a national campaign, established to encourage the public to increase their seafood consumption in line with the recommended two portions per week.CUSTOMERS TO GET HANDS ON

Budding professional fishmongers will also have the chance to use the open day to show off their skills and become certified under the Master Fishmonger Standard (MFS) (www.masterfishmonger.co.uk). Those deemed worthy of certification by the Master Fishmongers, will join an elite list of fishmongers to receive their award at a ceremony held at the historic Fishmongers’ Hall in London (www.fishhall.org.uk).

Managed by the Worship Company of Fishmongers, the Master Fishmonger Standard (MFS) recognises professional excellence across a range of levels within the seafood industry. The Guild has been helping to uphold standards of Fishmongering since 1272.

The schedule of open days is as follows:

– Cross of York: York – Thursday 10th of October
