Ecuador promotes shrimp to Chinese market
The best of Ecuadorian shrimp, in its various forms, was on display at one of the most important seafood fairs in China, its main export destination: World Seafood Shanghai, which took place from August 28 to 30 at the SNIEC New International Expo Center.
Ecuador’s presence on this powerful international platform was organized by the National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA), an entity that has brought together and represented the sector for 31 years.
At World Seafood Shanghai 2024, the Ecuador First Class Shrimp pavilion measures 360 m² and was made up of 17 exporting companies : Aquagold, Ceaexport, Cofimar, Empagran, Expalsa, Exportquilsa, Expotuna, Frigolandia, Limbomar, Nirsa, Omarsa, Procamaronex, Proexpo, Promarisco, Santa Priscila, Songa and Total Seafood.
This international fair has established itself as an essential platform for strengthening the presence of products in the competitive Chinese market. This important event not only boosts the visibility of brands, but also opens doors to establishing new strategic alliances.

In recent years, China has become the largest export destination for Ecuadorian shrimp. It is estimated that more than 50% of exports are destined for the Asian giant. During 2023, Ecuador’s shrimp exports to China exceeded 1,576,034,266 pounds, generating foreign exchange of $3,500,522,329 dollars, according to CNA figures.
In this way, Ecuador is positioned as the largest supplier of shrimp in the Chinese market, highlighting the importance of the product in a region that values high quality, freshness and sustainability in a highly competitive market. It is important to reiterate that Ecuadorian shrimp has positioned itself as one of the best in the world, reaffirming its prestige in international markets and its ability to meet the demands of the global market.
