NEW EVENT TAKING PLACE TO CELEBRATE SHETLAND’S AMAZING SEAFOOD

New event taking place to celebrate Shetland’s amazing seafood. A showcase of Shetland’s seafood heritage will take place at Fort Charlotte in Lerwick on Saturday 20 June, timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Bergen to Shetland Race, making it one of the busiest and most vibrant days in Lerwick’s summer calendar.

Organised by Taste of Shetland, Shetland Seafood: Midsummer Celebration will highlight the quality, sustainability and heritage of Shetland seafood through a full afternoon of live cooking demonstrations, market stalls, food & entertainment.

Entry is free, and visitors will be able to meet local producers and seafood businesses, enjoy freshly prepared seafood, watch live cooking demonstrations and learn more about the people and practices behind Shetland’s thriving seafood sector.

The event programme includes live demonstrations from CJ Jackson, chef, broadcaster and Head of the Billingsgate Seafood School, alongside local chefs and seafood industry specialists showcasing a wide range of Shetland’s own seafood products.

CJ Jackson says:

“As a Master Fishmonger and seafood cook – I am absolutely delighted to be invited to attend the Taste of Shetland – and to cut and prepare some of the many species landed into Lerwick market. Billingsgate Market is my usual home – and many merchants are envious of my opportunity to visit. Last year I travelled around the UK, with a fantastic photographer to complete my new book – The Great British Seafood Revival. This was a self indulgent project as we worked around the UK to visit many ports and markets to really get a feeling for who is catching what. We are so fortunate to have a wonderful selection of seafood in the UK – but are still focused on our favourite, cod, haddock and salmon. I am passionate about our local seafood and I am on a mission to try and get the UK public to enjoy more of what is caught around our shores. I can’t wait to see everything for myself”.

Shetland Seafood: A Midsummer Celebration takes place at Fort Charlotte, Lerwick on Saturday 20 June from 11am – 5pm. The event is free to attend and open to all. Further information will be available via the Taste of Shetland website and social media channels.

Taste of Shetland is the regional food group representing and promoting Shetland’s food and drink sector.
