ECUADORIAN SHRIMP INDUSTRY STRENGTHENS COMMITMENT TO MANGROVE CONSERVATION

ECUADORIAN SHRIMP INDUSTRY STRENGTHENS COMMITMENT

Ecuadorian shrimp industry strengthens commitment to mangrove conservation through new agreement with Conservation International Ecuador. Ecuador’s shrimp industry continues to reinforce its global leadership in responsible aquaculture through a new cooperation agreement between the National Chamber of Aquaculture of Ecuador and Conservation International Ecuador, aimed at promoting mangrove conservation, restoration, and monitoring initiatives across the country.

The agreement seeks to support coordinated actions that contribute to the protection of one of Ecuador’s most valuable coastal ecosystems: the mangrove. These ecosystems play a key role in biodiversity protection, coastal resilience, carbon capture, and the livelihoods of coastal communities.

For Ecuador’s shrimp sector, this initiative reflects a long-term vision: producing premium shrimp for the world while strengthening the environmental responsibility that supports the industry’s development.

Under this framework, both institutions will work on a cooperation roadmap focused on conservation, restoration, monitoring, technical studies, and community-based initiatives. Among the initial commitments is the conservation of 250 hectares of mangrove in priority areas, as well as actions related to restoration, the development of community nurseries, and the long-term survival of planted species.

Ecuador’s shrimp industry has built its global reputation not only on quality, but on a production model that integrates innovation, technical expertise, traceability, and environmental responsibility. Through partnerships like this, the sector continues to demonstrate that responsible aquaculture is not a statement,  it is a standard.

“From Ecuador to the world, we don’t just export shrimp. We export excellence, responsibility, and a way of doing things right. This agreement reflects the commitment of an industry that understands that protecting ecosystems is also part of producing with purpose.”

As global markets increasingly demand products backed by transparency and responsible practices, Ecuador continues to position itself as a benchmark for high-standard farmed shrimp production.

For Ecuador First Class Shrimp, sustainability is not an added value. It is part of the standard behind every shrimp exported from Ecuador.
