EU imposes sanctions on Major Russian whitefish companies. The Council has also broadened the scope to allow the EU to target tangible assets linked to Russia’s destabilising activities.

The European Commission has announced sanctions targeting prominent Russian cod and pollock suppliers, including Norebo and Murman SeaFood,  for their alleged involvement in a state-sponsored surveillance operation. The measures include an asset freeze and prohibit EU citizens and companies from providing funds or economic resources to the affected entities.

In a statement from the European Council, the EU accused Murmansk-based Norebo JSC and another Murmansk firm, Murman SeaFood, of being involved in a Russian government-backed espionage campaign. The two companies are suspected of carrying out intelligence-gathering missions and acts of sabotage targeting critical infrastructure, such as undersea communication cables.
