EUROPÊCHE CONGRATULATES COSTAS KADIS ON NEW APPOINTMENT
Europêche congratulates Costas Kadis on new appointment, following his confirmation as the new Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans. Europêche, the foremost representative body for the European Union’s fishing industry, warmly congratulates Costas Kadis on his appointment as the new Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans.
According to the sector, the newly elected Commissioner Kadis delivered very positive messages following a thorough and insightful hearing at the European Parliament. His commitment to understanding and addressing the many fisheries challenges is encouraging, especially given the extremely difficult situation faced by fishers across Europe.
Mr. Kadis’s willingness to revise where necessary the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), reduce bureaucratic burdens and reinforce food sovereignty demonstrates a thoughtful approach to strengthening the industry’s resilience and competitiveness. His recognition of the need to balance environmental, social, and economic factors, support fleet modernization, address the increasing competition for maritime space, uphold a level playing field, and protect the European fisheries chain from unfair global competition is highly reassuring.
Javier Garat, President of Europêche, stated:
“We look forward to working closely with Commissioner Kadis to reverse the situation and to move swiftly from words to action on these critical priorities. His understanding of these issues gives us confidence that he will help secure a strong, competitive future for European fishers.”
