Icelandic catches fall

The landed catch of Icelandic vessels in January 2020 was 35.8 thousand tonnes which is a 23% decrease from January last year. Demersal catch decreased by 37% while pelagic catch increased due to six thousand tonnes catch of blue whiting, whereas none was caught in January 2019.

Bad weather in January was no doubt a big reason for the fall, however, the total catch in a 12 month period from February 2019 to January 2020 also decreased, this time by 13% compared to the same period a year earlier.

Information about catch of fish which are published here preliminary figures. The data is gathered by the Directorate of Fisheries.
