ICELANDIC FISH CATCH MARGINALLY DOWN IN 2023

Icelandic fish catch marginally down in 2023
The total catch of Icelandic vessels in 2023 was 1,375 thousand tonnes which is 3% less than in 2022. The first sale value of catch increased by 1% between years and amounted to 197 billion ISK in 2023.
Of demersal species the catch in 2023 was 402 thousand tonnes which is 7% less than in 2022. First sale value of the demersal catch was 126 billion ISK which is 7% less than in 2022. Catch of pelagic species was 946 thousand tonnes in 2023, which is about 1% decrease in catch from 2022. The value of pelagic catch was 58 billion ISK in 2023.
Cod landings were down 10% on the previous year, haddock up 22%, saithe down 32%, herring more-or-less the same, capelin down 28%, blue whiting up 53% and mackerel up 9%.
