ICELANDIC FISH CATCH RISES IN APRIL

Icelandic fish catch rises in April. The total catch of Icelandic vessels was 115 thousand tonnes in April 2021 which is 30% more than in April 2020. Demersal catch was 47 thousand tonnes of which 23 thousand tonnes were cod. The pelagic catch in April was mostly blue whiting, 65 thousand tonnes.

In the 12 month period from May 2020 to April 2021 the total catch was just over 1.1 billion tonnes which is a 15% increase from the previous 12 month period. Pelagic catch was 595 thousand tonnes and demersal catch was 479 thousand tonnes.

In fixed prices the catch in April 2021 was 8.8% more than in April 2020. ICELANDIC FISH CATCH
