Ideal Foods celebrate a record year – the Cornish company is a family run business with many years of experience in the seafood industry.

This year, Liskeard based company Ideal Foods, which employs 25 staff reached a new milestone, turning over £10 Million in the last financial year.  In celebration of this achievement, the company organised a staff raffle with some very special prizes up for grabs, including holidays to the Philippines, Center Parcs and a Canal Boat holiday.  Every member of staff received a prize.

Tony Horner, MD of Ideal Foods comments: “Reaching this milestone has been the pinnacle for Ideal Foods so far and I am delighted to thank each and every member of my staff for their part in helping the company to reach this goal”.

Specialising in international trade, selling to 36 different countries, Ideal Foods export a range of fish products including salmon co-products, shellfish and whitefish.  Ideal Foods has enjoyed consistent year on year growth since the beginning.

Sustainability is at the very heart of Ideal Foods core values and the company ethos is to ensure that no part of the fish goes to waste.

The business is continually evolving, looking for new and innovative ways to use the raw material and now consists of a number of sub brands including Ideal Nutritional Foods, Purely Fish and the Ideal British Baby Food Company (iBBC), which operates mainly in China.

Ideal Nutritional Foods is a B to B business, supplying the top European baby food brands with aqua-cultural raw materials.

The quality of the fish used in baby food is extremely important.  Every fish we source, select and supply to our customers is carefully monitored and tested to meet the very highest of standards.  Product safety is the number one priority.

Purely Fish is a range of 100% natural pet food products, which includes treats, raw and wet food for dogs and cats, made with a minimum of 85% fish content.  Our products are rich in naturally occurring Omega 3 oils, gluten free, hypoallergenic and low in calories, benefiting skin and coat condition, teeth and joint mobility, digestion and heart health.  Purely Fish products can be purchased online from www.purelyfish.co.uk or from a number of stockists across the UK including Kernow Mill and Trago Mills as well as 51 other local stockists in Cornwall and Devon.

South East Cornwall MP, Sheryll Murray drew the raffle and selected James Lait, Nicola Riddle, and Harold Gubbin as the first three raffle winners who chose the Philippines, Center Parcs and Amsterdam holidays as their prizes.  Sheryll Murray comments: “I visited Ideal Foods a few years ago and even in this short time, the company has grown considerably.  I am delighted to have been asked to join the company to celebrate their achievements and it’s great to see hard working staff rewarded in this way – what a great boss they have”.

Ideal Foods is led by local businessman, Tony Horner and Sales Director, Jeanette Turpin with the support of Tony’s children, Lauren, Operations Director and Scott, Company Secretary.

Liskeard girl, Jeanette Turpin (nee. Dodge) joined Tony as an apprentice through the Youth Training Scheme (YTS) some 27 years ago.  Since then Jeanette has grown with the business and now leads a very busy and successful Sales Department, responsible for an annual turnover of over £10 million.

Tony Horner, continues: “Jeanette’s hard work, professionalism and leadership is testament to the success of Ideal Foods and I am extremely proud to have Jeanette as my business partner”.

The company continues to offer young people fantastic work based learning opportunities through the City & Guilds Business Apprenticeship Scheme.  James Hodgson, Office Administrative Apprentice comments: “This has been a fantastic opportunity for me to learn new skills and gain experience at the same time.  Ideal Foods is a great company to work for, with a really friendly and helpful team”.
