NEW AQUACULTURE OPPORTUNITIES
New aquaculture opportunities: Scottish Government seeks senior policy officers. Exciting career opportunities have come up with Marine Scotland, which is seeking to recruit four senior policy officer roles in the division that directly sponsors aquaculture and wild salmonid fisheries.

“Marine Scotland (MS) is a dynamic organisation within the Scottish Government (SG) responsible for policy, scientific research, compliance monitoring, and the management of Scotland’s seas. A number of posts are now available in the Aquaculture and Recreational Fisheries Division. This is a high profile area at the heart of the SG’s Blue Economy initiative. Aquaculture is currently the world’s fastest growing food-producing sector, and Scotland’s iconic wild Atlantic salmon fishery is central to Scotland’s heritage and international reputation, with recreational angling underpinning a vital part of Scotland’s rural economy.
“This is an exciting time to join Marine Scotland and play a crucial role in both policy and delivery – assisting and facilitating of a new vision for sustainable growth, developing the underpinning policy and regulatory framework for aquaculture, driving forward effective innovation, collaboration and investment, contributing to wild salmon conservation and angling, and playing a key role with Ministers and senior stakeholders. These are high profile and challenging roles at the heart of the SG’s Blue Economy initiative offering opportunities for developing policy and briefing skills, including international experiences, working directly with Ministers, external stakeholders – including multi-national aquaculture businesses, trade associations, regulatory bodies, Fisheries and across the public and private sectors.”
- Post 1 will encompass responsibility for wild salmon conservation through engagement internationally and in Scotland.
- Post 2 will play a key role in facilitating and promoting Scotland’s aquaculture and recreational fisheries on the world stage.
- Post 3 will manage aquaculture stakeholder engagement and associated Ministerial and Parliamentary work.
- Post 4 will lead on aquaculture planning and consenting regulation.
