NEW COMMUNITY BENCH FOR LOCHCARRON

NEW COMMUNITY BENCH

New community bench for Lochcarron, thanks to the Scottish Salmon Company. The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) has presented the Lochcarron Community Adopt a Barrel Scheme with funding towards a new bench through a donation from its community fund.

The Lochcarron Community Adopt a Barrel Scheme brings dedicated volunteers together to enhance the beauty and amenities of the local area, providing long-term benefits for local residents and visitors. The bench sits alongside 53 vibrant flower barrels situated on Main Street in Lochcarron, and aims to encourage community interaction as locals and visitors alike can use the bench as a social meeting point or rest area.

Established in 2017 as part of SSC’s Community Charter, the Fund encourages SSC staff to be champions in their area by nominating local groups, charities and organisations that support health and wellbeing for a funding grant of up to £250. The Adopt a Barrel scheme was nominated by Dougie Macleod, Area Manager (Skye and Mainland).

Craig Anderson, Chief Executive of The Scottish Salmon Company said: “The Lochcarron Community Adopt a Barrel Scheme is a great initiative that provides a place for residents and visitors to enjoy the local area and scenic views.

“The Scottish Salmon Company is committed to promoting health and wellbeing in the communities where we live and work, and we are delighted to support this community initiative.”

Anthea Zell, Lochcarron community volunteer member said: “Lochcarron is committed to maintaining public areas by improving amenities of the village. The Lochcarron Community Adopt a Barrel Scheme was set up a number of years ago – the scheme has provided 53 barrels and coordinates the “adoption ” of each barrel by local residents who plant flowers and maintain them, providing an attractive border to the lochside road. We have now replaced 12 lochside benches that were falling into disrepair and provided an additional five placed at regular intervals with an additional bench strategically placed on route to the Medical Centre. Lochcarron is fortunate to have amazing views across the loch, the benches have already been utilised by residents and visitors alike. We thank The Scottish Salmon Company for their generous donation.”
