NEW DEPUTY HARBOUR MASTER FOR NEWLYN
New deputy harbour master for Newlyn. Newlyn Pier and Harbour Commissioners have appointed Alan Hartwell to the vacant role of Deputy Harbour Master and will join fellow Deputy Harbour Master, Jedna Hall, as part of the Newlyn Harbour management team, in February 2023.
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Alan Hartwell, who has ably undertaken a similar role with the Duchy of Cornwall at St Mary’s on the Isles of Scilly and wish his predecessor, Roger Nowell, a safe and prosperous return to sea,” comments NP&HC Chairman, Rob Wing.
Meanwhile, plans to establish the Newlyn Marine Skills & Resource Centre as part of the UK Government’s Town Deals Fund continue to gather pace and NP&HC look forward to receiving WSP Limited’s report on viable options for the development of Sandy Cove during the first quarter of 2023.
Newlyn is one of the largest fishing ports in the UK. With its strategic geographic location, it is proud to offer round-the-clock refuge to those vessels that fish the Southwest Approaches.
Lying adjacent to some of the richest fishing grounds in the Northern Hemisphere, the iconic harbour is the fulcrum of Cornwall’s fishing industry and it aspires for it to become the UK’s leading port – recognised as a centre of excellence and for its pioneering approach.
