NEW UK FISHERIES MINISTER

New UK fisheries minister. Thérèse Coffey is the UK’s new Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in the Rishi Sunak government, and her brief includes the important fisheries portfolio.

She was previously Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, and Deputy Prime Minister, between 6 September 2022 and 25 October 2022.

She was Secretary of State at the Department for Work and Pensions between 8 September 2019 and 6 September 2022.

She was Minister of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs between 25 July 2019 and 8 September 2019.

She was Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs from 17 July 2016 to 25 July 2019. She was elected the Conservative MP for Suffolk Coastal in May 2010.

Thérèse graduated from University College London (UCL) with a PhD in chemistry.

After graduating Coffey worked in a number of roles for Mars Incorporated, including as finance director for Mars Drinks UK. She then worked for the BBC as a finance manager in the Property division

Thérèse is an avid football fan, supporting Liverpool Football Club, gardening and music, especially Muse. She is a CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) member.
