Probotic unveils AI-powered hole detection system to revolutionise fish farming industry.  Probotic, a leader in developing sustainable solutions for the fish farming industry, has announced the successful development of its AI-based Hole Detection system, designed to prevent salmon escapes and promote safer, healthier salmon farming. This cutting-edge technology will enable daily inspections of fish pen nets, drastically improving the current industry standard of monthly or less frequent manual inspections.

The Hole Detection system is powered by an AI detection algorithm that has undergone rigorous training using tools such as CVAT and YOLO algorithms. The result is an AI model capable of detecting holes in fish pen nets with accuracy equal to or better than human inspectors. This technology will be integrated with Probotic’s autonomous underwater robot, Probot, to perform daily net inspections and provide real-time alerts on detected holes.

The project, backed by the Fisheries and Aquaculture Industry’s Research Funding (FHF) in partnership with Ballangen Sjøfarm, has received praise for its potential to impact the salmon farming industry significantly. By reducing salmon escapes and improving overall net inspection reliability, Probotic’s AI-based Hole Detection system will contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future for fish farming.
