REACTION TO JOHN SWINNEY ACORN PROJECT FUNDING ANNOUNCEMENT

REACTION TO JOHN SWINNEY

Reaction to John Swinney Acorn Project funding announcement.  In response to the First Minister John Swinney’s announcement of £2m to support the Acorn carbon capture project, please see the quote below from Iain Clunie, Programme Director at Scotland Food & Drink Partnership’s Net Zero Commitment.

Iain Clunie, Programme Director at the Scotland Food & Drink Partnership’s Net Zero Commitment, commented:

“The Scotland Food & Drink Partnership’s Net Zero Commitment welcomes the announcement from the First Minister to support the Acorn carbon capture scheme. Food and drink is one of Scotland’s biggest employer sectors, with more than 130,000 people directly employed and generating £8 billion in exports, but only with government support on major infrastructure investments like Acorn project, can we collectively reach Net Zero by 2045.

“The Acorn project will provide a boost to the north east economy, which is home to our word-class seafood processing sector, and a key region for our distillers and primary producers. The Scotland Food & Drink Partnership’s Net Zero Commitment welcomes the Scottish Government’s commitment to work constructively with the local community and businesses to ensure the sustainable growth of the food and drink sectors as part of its Acorn project funding.

Scotland Food & Drink Partnership’s Net Zero Commitment

Scotland Food & Drink announced their Net Zero Commitment in November 2021 at COP26, setting out how they will support the industry to meet its targets, by addressing the challenges and opportunities throughout the food and drink supply chain by a just transition to Net Zero.

They are here to build on the efforts already taken to maintain their high environmental standards and provide leadership, advice and guidance to food and drink businesses, wherever they are on their Net Zero journey.
