RUSSIA AND LITHUANIA AGREE ON FISHING IN THE CURONIAN LAGOON
Russia and Lithuania agree on fishing in the Curonian Lagoon. On November 29-30, 2021, the 22nd session of the Russian-Lithuanian Mixed Fisheries Commission was held, the meeting was held via videoconference.
The Russian delegation was headed by the head of the West Baltic territorial administration of the Federal Agency for Fishery – Alexander Georgievich Zhukov, the Lithuanian delegation was headed by the head of the fishery department of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania – Yustas Poviliunas.
The parties exchanged information on the results of work on artificial reproduction of aquatic biological resources in the Kaliningrad region and the Republic of Lithuania. Particular attention was paid to issues that allow organising the process of using aquatic biological resources at a level that ensures their normal renewal, which meets the promising interests of the fishing organisations of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Lithuania.
During the session, a discussion was held on the estimates of the values of reserves, as well as the TAC and national quotas for the visible aquatic biological resources regulated on a bilateral basis in the Curonian Lagoon for 2022 were established.
In addition, the Parties considered proposals for the exchange of specialists in the field of control and regulation of fishing, as well as reproduction of aquatic biological resources and aquaculture between organisations of Russia and Lithuania.
The next session of the Mixed Russian-Lithuanian Commission on Fisheries is scheduled for the second half of 2022 on the territory of the Republic of Lithuania.
