RUSSIAN AQUACULTURE PRODUCTION

Russian aquaculture production soars. Russian aquaculture production in the first quarter of 2020 amounted to 112.8 thousand tons (80 thousand in the first quarter of 2019). Compared to the same period in 2019, the growth was 38%.

The leaders in the development of aquaculture were the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District – 39.5 thousand tons (an increase of 17.6 thousand tons compared to the previous year), the Southern Federal District – 29.2 thousand tons (+ 8.1 thousand tons), North-Western Federal District – 24.4 thousand tons (+1.9 thousand tons) and the North Caucasian Federal District – 11.7 thousand tons (+ 2.1 thousand tons). In other districts, production was distributed as follows: Central Federal District – 3.7 thousand tons (+0.8 thousand tons), Ural Federal District – 1.8 thousand tons (+0.2 thousand tons), Volga Federal District – 1 , 8 thousand tons (-0.1 thousand tons), Siberian Federal District – 0.7 thousand tons (+0.3 thousand tons).

Of the species composition of the products, the increase was due to brown algae, invertebrates, cyprinids and salmon, there is also an increase in sturgeon: cyprinids (34.8 thousand tons, an increase of 7.7 thousand tons), salmon – 25.2 thousand tons ( +2 thousand tons), invertebrates – 23 thousand tons, (+7.9 thousand tons), brown algae – 17.7 thousand tons (+9.7 thousand tons), sturgeons – 1.9 thousand tons (+1.4 thousand tons), whitefish – 0.4 thousand tons (-0.02 thousand tons), other species – 0.8 thousand tons (-0.01 thousand tons).

Taking into account the introduction of anti-sanction measures in 2015, the production of salmon species in Russia doubled and, according to the results of 2019, amounted to 90.8 thousand tons. In the first quarter of 2020, there is also a positive trend – an increase of 8%. Salmon species production in the first quarter of 2020 amounted to 25.2 thousand tons (+2 thousand tons). The largest production volumes in Murmansk – 16.7 thousand tons, (+0.2 thousand tons) and Leningrad – 5.1 thousand tons, (+1.2 thousand tons) regions. Also, aquaculture enterprises for this type of product are developing in the Republic of Karelia  – 0.7 thousand tons (-0.2 thousand tons), the Republic of North Ossetia  – 0.4 thousand tons (+0.2 thousand tons) and Dagestan – 0.4 thousand tons (+0.1 thousand tons) and in other Russian regions – 2 thousand tons (+0.4 thousand tons) .
