SEAFOOD INDUSTRY PIONEER TECHNICAL APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME

SEAFOOD INDUSTRY PIONEER TECHNICAL APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME

Seafood industry pioneer Technical Apprenticeship Scheme. The UK Seafood Federation in partnership with the University of Lincoln have led the development of a flagship Seafood Technical Apprenticeship Scheme to address the acute skills shortages in technical roles in seafood processing & trading.

The scheme has been designed in partnership with the University of Lincoln’s, National Centre for Food Manufacturing (NCFM), and will see the first cohort of apprentices from Federation
members commence their apprenticeship programme in September, 2025.

Apprentices undertake a Level 3 Food Technologist Apprenticeship enhanced with a programme of activities also linked to the existing Future Seafood Leaders programme, to further build their understanding of the sector. The scheme will be complemented by a seafood tailored Degree Apprenticeship offer over coming months, and apprenticeship vacancies are being created for school leavers.

Luci Russell, Group Technical Director, New England Seafoods International remarked:

‘‘Technical roles are notoriously hard to fill and as a group of UK Seafood Federation member businesses, we are committed to working together to address this challenge helped by NCFM’s long-standing expertise in food technology apprenticeships and seafood”
