SEARCH FOR BRITAIN’S BEST SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD

Search for Britain’s best sustainable seafood dish. The Master Chefs of Great Britain will this year host the Bill Bryce Sustainable Seafood Competition 2022 in partnership with the Marine Conservation Society and Seafood Scotland

The Master Chefs of Great Britain has launched a search for Britain’s best sustainable seafood dishes from young chefs, as part of a competition in partnership with the Marine Conservation Society and Seafood Scotland.

The Bill Bryce Sustainable Seafood Competition 2022 is expected to attract some of the most talented young Seafood Chefs aged up to 23 in the UK. Its aim is to encourage more people to cook and eat fish, as well as promote seafood on the menus of more eateries throughout the UK. Prizes worth over £500 are up for grabs.

Judges including George McIvor, Master Chefs Chairman, and Jack Clarke, Sustainable Seafood Advocate with Marine Conservation Society, will judge dishes created by some of the best young chefs in the UK using British seafood or shellfish.

This year’s competition is dedicated to long-time member of the Master Chefs of Great Britain, Bill Bryce, who passed away in 2021. Bill was a member of the organisation for over 30 years, serving as Membership Secretary, member of the Executive Committee and more recently an honorary Vice President. His restaurant, Bryce’s Seafood Restaurant, was renowned for seafood lovers and highly regarded as one of the best in Surrey.

George McIvor, Chairman of The Master Chefs of Great Britain, said:

“Seafood is extremely popular in the UK and it will be interesting to see just how creative the chefs can be in this competition.

“In the last few years, young chefs in the UK have really got to grips with seafood. They know what they are doing and know how to really impress the judges. Last year the event was held online due to COVID restrictions and we are delighted that this year’s final will be held with chefs cooking live at Bristol City College.

“It is also a fitting tribute to Bill, a much-loved colleague who is missed by many in the industry.”

The Competition
Entries are open for the competition from 1st – 31st March 2022. Shortlisted finalists will be announced on Friday 9th April and the final will be held on 24th May at Bristol City College. The main ingredient of each dish must be sustainably caught mussels and hake.

By entering the competition, all entrants agree and consent to the Masterchefs of Great Britain using recipes, photos and filming for publicity purposes.
