Smart Packaging and Ingredients That Help Processors Add Value

Smart Packaging and Ingredients That Help Processors Add Value.

Scobie & Junor shows how packaging efficiency and simple value-adding ingredients can help UK seafood processors boost yield, cut costs and create products that stand out.

In seafood processing, margins are tight and efficiency is everything. Yet the two biggest levers for improving profit, packaging and presentation, are often overlooked.

That’s where Scobie & Junor is making a difference.

With over a century of experience supporting UK food manufacturing, the company’s Fish Division partners with processors to streamline packaging performance and add value through innovative, ready-to-use ingredient solutions.

“Processors are under constant pressure to do more with less,” explains Heather Duke, Fish Processors OutReach Specialist. “Our job is to help them achieve that, through packaging that reduces waste and ingredients that add visible value without adding complexity.”

On the packaging side, Scobie & Junor’s team supplies blue vacuum pouches, gold and silver trays and gold pouches that combine premium presentation with excellent sealing performance. Engineered for strength and clarity, they don’t just protect your fish, they showcase it, and when appearance matters as much as freshness, the packaging solutions ensure that your fish reaches your customers in pristine condition every time.

But the company is also helping processors capture new sales with its growing ingredients range. From light, crispy crumbs to vibrant glazes and rich marinades, the range helps transform core fish produce into premium products with minimal effort.

Scobie & Junor’s recent ‘Salmon Six Ways’ trials proved just how effective this can be. Six glazes, including Tandoori, Sweet Chilli, Lemon & Herb Piri Piri, Cajun, Chaat Masala and Teriyaki, were tested on fresh salmon to measure colour, flavour and consistency through cooking. The results showed that small, low-cost flavour changes can significantly lift visual appeal, perceived quality and selling price, without altering production processes.

As Heather concludes: “Adding value doesn’t have to mean adding complexity. With the right packaging and ingredients, processors can protect yield, improve margins, and make their products look worth more.”
