SSA CALLS ON UK GOVERNMENT TO REVEAL ITS HAND ON BUSINESS SUPPORT

SSA calls on UK Government to reveal its hand on business support. The chief executive officer of the Scottish Seafood Association says there is an air of uncertainty hanging over the fish processing sector, given that the new UK Government has so far failed to reveal its policies for supporting businesses.
Jimmy Buchan told Fish Focus that the “Government’s cards are lying face down on the table” and that the time has come to unveil their hand.
“There is a lot of talk about growing the economy – which essentially means supporting businesses – but so far we are in the dark as to what they are proposing,” he said.
“A particular concern is they want to boost the economy in tandem with implementing green policies, which is fine as far as it goes, but doing this comes at a cost, which means the Government must support businesses, including those in the seafood sector.
“Our sector is all for modernising and supporting a green economy, but we in turn need the support and future funding to carry that through.
“We do, however, welcome talk about improving relations with the EU, which will hopefully make exporting easier, and moving forward, it would be very useful to have much greater clarity from Government about their overall policies for businesses.”
