SSC WINS HAT TRICK OF FOOD AND DRINK AWARDS
SSC wins hat trick of food and drink awards. The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) has won three categories at the renowned Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Awards (HIFAD).
SSC picked up three prestigious awards in the Business Growth, Export and Marketing categories at the ceremony in Inverness in recognition of its performance over the past 12 months. The Company has posted record results, grown exports to nearly 70% of turnover and launched Lochlander Salmon into North America.
Now in their 15th year, HIFAD celebrate passion, quality and innovation across the region. It highlights the finest businesses that are helping put the Highlands and Islands on the food and drink map and is delivered with support from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).
SSC is the leading producer of quality Scottish Salmon operating exclusively in Scotland, employing over 650 people across 60 sites along the remote and rural areas of the West Coast of Scotland and Hebrides. In some of these communities it is the largest private sector employer.
The Company’s responsible growth strategy is underpinned by a commitment to the environmental, cultural and economic sustainability of rural Scotland. Central to this is developing exports and creating and retaining value in the communities in which it operates.
Craig Anderson, Chief Executive at The Scottish Salmon Company, said:
“Exports have been fundamental to our business growth so it is fitting that we have been recognised in these categories. The Highlands and Islands are integral to our heritage and our brands, and we are proud to be a major employer in the area, creating and, most importantly, retaining value within the rural economy. These awards are testament to the hard work and commitment of our team.”
Penny Ellis, member of the award’s steering group and owner of Knockomie Hotel, said:
“We have had another remarkable year enjoying the very best of what our region has to offer. The Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Awards continue to demonstrate the commitment, dedication and inspirational entrepreneurship that is flourishing in an economy that faces numerous challenges.
“We have seen entries that have demonstrated innovative ways to secure funding, look at new routes to market in the often crowded world of exporting. Our winners and finalists are to be so proud of all that they have achieved. Each year the entries are giving insights as to how they are proving to be ahead of competitors, never resting on their laurels and always willing to try something new and varied to make their product be ‘the one’ of consumer choice.”
