SUSPENSION OF FOYLE OYSTER FISHERY

SUSPENSION OF FOYLE OYSTER FISHERY

Suspension of Foyle oyster fishery. Loughs Agency in Ireland has announced the suspension of the Native Oyster Fishery in the Foyle area for a three-week period until Thursday 14th November 2024 as outlined within the declaration, which can be viewed here.

The decision has been made in order to alleviate pressure on the native oyster population in Lough Foyle, aiming to maintain a sustainable biomass of spawning stock and prevent overfishing and stockpiling of oysters.

If an additional suspension is required, this will be communicated at the earliest possible opportunity.

Catch returns and any landings during this period will be closely monitored by Loughs Agency. Licence holders are reminded of their legal obligation to submit their catch returns no later than three days after the close of each fishing week.
