SUSSEX MARINE HAND GATHERING BYELAW

SUSSEX MARINE HAND GATHERING BYELAW

Sussex marine hand gathering byelaw. The Sussex Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (Sussex IFCA) intends to apply to the Minister for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for confirmation of the Hand Gathering Byelaw 2021.

The Hand Gathering Byelaw 2021 establishes new management for the harvesting of marine fauna and flora from the intertidal zone by hand, or with hand held implements. Hand gathering includes bait collection for angling and the removal of species for human consumption.

To support the statutory consultation process for the Sussex Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (Sussex IFCA) Hand Gathering Byelaw, the Authority has arranged opportunities for members of the public to meet with Sussex IFCA Officers, to both discuss the proposed management and look at available information.

Pre-booked appointments only
To ensure individuals have both adequate time and opportunity to speak with officers and that the numbers of individuals are not excessive and present an unnecessary Covid-19 risk, we will be holding pre-booked 30-minute appointments only, with a maximum of 4 attendees per session.

Please contact the office on 01273 454407 to check availability and secure your appointment.

These surgeries will take place at four Sussex coastal locations:

Tuesday 22nd March 4pm – 8pm: Shoreham Sussex IFCA Office, BN43 6RE, Rye Community Centre, TN31 7LE
