TALENTED FISHMONGER AWARDED APPRENTICESHIP

Talented fishmonger awarded apprenticeship. Euan Latimer works at Latimer’s Seafoods in Whitburn, near Sunderland. He recently passed the Level 2 Fishmonger Apprenticeship with a Merit grade. Over a period of 18 months, Euan has enhanced his fishmongering skills and knowledge with the support of apprenticeship training provider, MEAT Ipswich. They conducted training sessions at Euan’s place of work along with some online revision sessions. Euan then completed his end-point assessment which was performed by Food and Drink Qualifications (FDQ).

Robert Latimer, owner of Latimer’s Seafoods said:

“We are overjoyed with Euan (no relation) passing his apprenticeship. He is an asset to our business and he has a great rapport with our customers. Apprenticeships are fantastic as they support staff development and they provide business benefits too.”

Apprenticeships combine practical on the job training with additional study. An apprentice is employed by a business and is paid while they gain experience and knowledge, important to their job role and chosen apprenticeship.

Hannah Gooby, Business Development Manager at MEAT Ipswich highlighted:

“Euan has made history as our first Level 2 Fishmonger Apprentice to achieve a Merit. This is a fantastic milestone, not only for Euan personally, but also for MEAT Ipswich, as he became the first learner to complete the qualification with us. Euan’s dedication, skill and passion for his craft have truly paid off, setting a brilliant example for future apprentices to follow.”

Earlier this year, an updated version of the Level 2 Fishmonger Apprenticeship was made available in England. As well as containing a pathway for a retail fishmonger working in a supermarket or independent fishmongers, it now also offers another pathway for a fishmonger working in a wholesalers or processors.
